Film Title:

Bend it Like Beckham

Year:

2002

Director:

Gurinder Chadha

Actors:

Parminder Nagra, Keira Knightley, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Juliet Stevenson

Plot:

Comedy.  Two gals, both mad keen on football have to overcome parental opposition and impress the American talent scout in order to go pro.  Will they manage it?  And which one gets the boy?

Review:

I hate football and still love this film.  The jokes come thick and fast, the life lessons are right on, and the film looks fab.  Add the Indian background and Juliet Stevenson in a mad blonde wig and you've got a very funny, heart-warming film which the whole family will watch over and over.  Extra points for the quirky supporting characters, memorable lines, good gags, fun costumes, and a happy ending.

Stars:

Five
